Spring on the Bayou: Pairing Olive Oils with Garden-Fresh Veggies

Spring on the Bayou: Pairing Olive Oils with Garden-Fresh Veggies

Spring has officially arrived in Jefferson, and with it comes a burst of green life, porch weather, and the scent of blooming magnolias drifting down the bayou. Here at the Foodie Tasting Room, this is one of our favorite times of year—when our shelves brim with fresh olive oils, our kitchen hums with new seasonal flavors, and our town begins preparing for the beloved Spring and Summer Gardens.

Whether you’re walking through heritage roses in full bloom or planning your own spring garden beds, it’s the perfect moment to bring seasonal freshness into your kitchen. And one of the easiest, most flavorful ways to do just that? Pairing garden-fresh vegetables with our infused olive oils.

Elevate Your Veggies with Flavorful Infusions

At the Foodie Tasting Room, we carry a vibrant collection of infused extra virgin olive oils that are crafted to complement everything from earthy root vegetables to delicate greens. Our favorites for spring?

  • Meyer Lemon Extra Virgin Olive Oil – Bright and citrusy, this oil adds a zesty pop to asparagus, artichokes, and snap peas. Drizzle it over grilled vegetables or use it to dress a fresh spring salad.

  • Basil Extra Virgin Olive Oil – The essence of a Southern herb garden in a bottle. Perfect on heirloom tomatoes, sautéed squash, or even tossed with new potatoes and sea salt.

  • Fresh Garlic Extra Virgin Olive Oil – A pantry must-have. Roast carrots, cauliflower, or onions with a splash of this oil and let the mellow garlic bring out their natural sweetness.

  • Tuscan Herb Extra Virgin Olive Oil – Infused with rosemary, thyme, oregano, and lavender, this oil is a nod to Southern France but plays beautifully with East Texas garden fare.

Spring Produce You’ll Love to Love

Your favorite local farmers’ markets and backyard gardens are bursting with goodness this time of year. Keep an eye out for:

  • Snap beans

  • Baby squash

  • Rainbow carrots

  • Radishes

  • Spring onions

  • Sugar snap peas

  • Garden lettuces

  • Beets and beet greens

Roast them, steam them, grill them—or better yet, enjoy them raw with a drizzle of oil and a pinch of finishing salt.

Celebrate the Garden Tour with a Taste of Spring

As we count down to the Jefferson Spring Garden Tour (coming up next weekend!), let your kitchen reflect the beauty that’s blooming all over town. Many of our infused olive oils will be featured in tastings during the event, and we’ll be sharing recipe cards and garden pairing tips all weekend long.

Make sure to stop by the Foodie Tasting Room before or after your stroll through Jefferson’s enchanting gardens. Sample our seasonal favorites, chat with fellow food lovers, and pick up a bottle—or three—to turn your vegetables into something spectacular.

Because down here on the bayou, spring isn’t just a season—it’s a way of life, and it starts in the garden.
