Classic Tomato Sandwich Recipe

2 slices of Bunny bread
1-2 ripe tomatoes (such as beefsteak, heirloom, or vine-ripened)
2 tablespoons mayonnaise
salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste

Toast the bread slices if you prefer a bit of crunch. You can use a toaster or a skillet to lightly brown the bread.
Wash the tomatoes and slice them into about ¼-inch thick slices. If the tomatoes are particularly juicy, you might want to pat them gently with a paper towel to remove excess moisture.
Spread mayonnaise evenly on one side of each slice of bread.
Layer the tomato slices on one slice of bread. Arrange them in a single layer, overlapping slightly if needed.
Sprinkle salt and freshly ground black pepper over the tomatoes to taste. If you're adding fresh basil or lettuce, layer it on top of the tomatoes.
Cut the sandwich in half, if desired, and serve immediately.
